Dear Friends,
Pope Benedict has called the youth and young adults of the world to come together in Madrid, Spain in August, 2011. The theme of World Youth Day 2011 is based on St. Paul’s letter to the Colossians 2:7,
“Rooted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in faith.”
While WYD2011 is 2 years away, the time to begin planning and praying about participating in this pilgrimage is now. Youth, as defined by the Vatican, are those who are 16-35 years of age by the time of WYD. The dates of our pilgrimage will be August 10th to August 22, 2011. This includes Days in the Diocese which are the initial 4 days in Spain to be spent in an area outside of Madrid and building community with our hosts. We will be using Catholic Pilgrim Office as our travel company.
The total estimated cost for our diocesan pilgrimage is $3500. The cost includes the following:
• RT Airfare from Detroit to Spain
• Air taxes, transfers and fuel surcharges
• Public transportation during WYD activities
• Motorcoach from Days location to Madrid
• 8 nights hotel lodging during WYD
• Probable home stays/simple housing during Days in the Diocese
• WYD fees
• Most meals during Days in the Diocese/All meals during WYD
• Diocesan T-shirt
We have tentatively reserved hotel space through Catholic Pilgrim Office but these spaces are not confirmed until a deposit is submitted.
To reserve you spot, a $300 per person non-refundable deposit payable to the
Diocese of Lansing by November 2, 2009.
It will be extremely helpful to gauge interest in this pilgrimage, so if you are thinking about bringing participants, please contact us.
To prepare for our pilgrimage to Madrid, we will gather as a community for prayer, formation and sharing of information a couple times a year in person and through email, social networking, etc…
